A travel to the world of diversity in Sinharaja rain forest


The Sinharaja Forest Reservation is a National park and a biodiversity hot spot in Sri Lanka.It is of International significance and has been designated a Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site by UNESCO.This name has come from the name of king Simhala who has lived in ancient days. This Sinharaja name is related with this history. This rain forest is known for the biodiversity in abundance and most of the plants and animals are growing here. There are 20 types of birds out of 25 SriLankan birds. From that around 12 types of birds are captured by my camera. In 1978 this place has got designated from UNESCO and having 11427 hectare area.


There are 19 big and small waterfalls and more than 100 small streams in that rain forest. The Kaluganga and Ginganga river’s sources are from here. The Sri Lanka Bluemagpi,red fised,malkoha,SriLanka Hanging parrot etc are the birds which can be seen only in Sinharaja rain forest of SriLanka.And the purple fized leaf monkey,tork monkey,fishing cat,rasty spotted cat,mouse deer,gristtled giant squirrel and Srilankan leopard are the animals in this place. The reptiles of green pit viper,hump nosed lizard are also can be seen here.
