Thangasseri is one of the historical place in Kerala. It is also known as ‘Sent Thomas kotta’. This place is remaining as a part of Dutch Kotta.This is under the control of Central Antique department.

The Portugues had come to Kollam in the year 1503 for making marketing with Kollam. In 1552 the Portugues named Rodrigs came to Thangasseri and took the permission to reconstruct the pandakasala.But they constructed one big castle. In 1659, December 29 the Dutch people came to Kollam and destroyed the castle.Again in1669, the Dutch people had reconstructed the Thangasseri Kotta. The Dutch people failed against the Marthandavarma in the kulachal war, 1741.And in 1742 the Thangasseri kotta has become under the custody of English East India company. The Dutch chief director Newhaf who has appointed for making contract between the south Kerala Kings tried to do the maintenance work of the Thangasseri Kotta. In 1552 Newhaf has mentioned that the construction of this Kotta is done by Hector Dilakasa.
