To go Ambanadu hills,mainly we can go from the Kollam -Thirumangalam national way to Ambanadu Estate through Kazhuthurutti railway station.The Ambanadu Estate Entrance is with rubber plantations, villages,estates and the hills with tea plants. On the way we can see the waterfalls and small streams.The entry pass of 100 rps will get in front of the gate in the Ambanadu.There we can see the roads with shadow and the beauty of the nature. Then there are Ambanadu tea factory, banglows and Neelakulam view point.And one waterfall is there inside the estate.More than that this place is situated near to the Punalor which is having the second place for highest temperature in Kerala.The also it’s providing nice and calm climate. This is the correct time to visit this place and will get one umbrella also freely. The facilities are available for the stay.
I came to know about this way in 2007 and travelled at first time. After making the pass for the Ambanadu estate I used to travel through this way most of the time.The travel is through the forest area and no need to expect the roads. If we want water we have to reach Ambanadu after the Achankovil junction.I have seen the wild animals like elephants and buffalows in the way.It is very difficult to travel if rain comes.Because light will not reach from anywhere. We should be very careful while traveling in the forest. The travellers of Kollam-Trivandrum can reach Achankovil through Pathanapuram-Punnala-Karavoor-Chembanaruvi route. There are no hotels after the Achankovil.One more route is there to reach Achankovil. The people from the districts Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam should reach Konni.After passing Konni town in Eliyarakal we have to turn left and should reach Kallar Check post. The things should be avoided in the forest itself before reaching the check post. Because there will be checking for the vehicles also.After the check post one bridge will be there in the left side.We will get one view point if we stand on the bridge. Leave the bridge and go straight. We should be aware of elephants.No need to tell to be alert.This way will end in the Cherupittekavu village and will get the way of Achakovil after that. Now we can go to Ambanad.The forest will start from the way of right side in the Achankovil temple.No vehicles will climb through this way except jeep, bike and off road vehicles. If the Ambanadu people wanted to go own Panchayat, they have to travel many kilometers through Tamilnadu. But now the Construction for the Ambanadu-Priya estate -Achankovil road is started. It might be a relaxation. Presently it has stopped. One metal road will get inside the forest.
We will reach Priya estate after passing the beautiful forest way. It is a ‘Rakthasakshi ‘ of a labour strike. After travelling the few kilometers can reach to Ambamadu.
In Priya Estate orange trees are there and can able to get fresh oranges. After that one spoiled banglow is there in the left side.I felt this place is better than Ambanadu. One big banglow and one shed for the horse little away from it. One more building which looks like the building for the labours. The fruits which will get in the Ooty and Kodaykanal is increasing the cold. One rock is there while entering into the Ambanadu estate. If we climb up,is possible to see the tea factory and the areas from the top. It gives a beautiful long sight.
